Henna & Jagua Body Art
Plant-Based Art for the Skin & Soul
Henna and jagua have been used for centuries in cultures across the world as forms of celebration, protection, and devotion.
Henna has deep roots in South Asian, Middle Eastern, and North and East African communities, while jagua comes from Indigenous traditions in Central and South America. While I do not belong to these cultures, I practice with reverence—learning, sourcing ethically, and honoring the origins of these art forms.

Yes! I use 100% natural henna, made fresh with safe, skin-friendly ingredients. My paste includes henna leaf powder, lemon juice, organic sugar, and lavender essential oil. Please let me know if you have any allergies or sensitivities before your session.

Jagua is a natural dye made from the juice of the Genipa americana fruit, traditionally used in parts of Central and South America. It's safe for most people, but those with fruit allergies (especially citrus or tropical fruits) or sensitive skin should be cautious. Jagua stains develop in shades of deep blue-black.
-
Henna creates reddish-brown stains that deepen over 1–2 days and last about 1–2 weeks.
Jagua gives a blue-black stain, similar to a tattoo, and also lasts about 1–2 weeks.
Both are temporary, plant-based, and safe when applied correctly. -
Not at all! Henna and jagua are applied like paint. There are no needles, no pain—just a cool sensation and a little tickle if you're sensitive.
-
Both henna and jagua typically last 1–2 weeks, depending on your skin type, where the design is placed, and how well you follow aftercare. Designs on hands and feet stain darkest and last longest.
-
Yes, natural henna is considered safe during pregnancy and is often used in traditional prenatal ceremonies. However, I do recommend avoiding jagua during pregnancy or breastfeeding out of an abundance of caution. Always check with your care provider if you’re unsure.
-
I generally do not apply henna or jagua to children under 10, unless by special request and with a parent present.
Younger skin can be more sensitive, and kids are less likely to sit still long enough for the design to set properly.
